SCOTTSBURG, IND.   The Kentucky Tennessee Monument Builders Association (KTMBA) recently held its annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky.  As part of the conference, more than 75 individuals, predominately monument dealers and their spouses, traveled to Scottsburg, Indiana, on October 27 to tour the Fewell Monuments plant as well as see the Scottsburg Veterans Memorial produced by Fewell.

When arriving at the Fewell plant, the visitors were greeted and hosted by the entire staff. During the tour, the guests saw laser engraving, Fewell’s trademark computer design program — the industry’s largest selection of laser designs and custom etchings — and viewed a large inventory of products, some specially priced for the event.  Many of the visitors complimented the Fewell staff for the valuable time they gave sharing ideas and providing hands-on opportunities to learn how the plant operates.
The monument, commissioned by the Scott County Veterans of Foreign War,
memorializes local veterans as far back as the Revolutionary War.  It was designed by Terry Fewell and created by artists of Fewell Monuments.  Local bronze sculptor David Lind created the bronze eagle.  Spanning 33 feet in length (at its etched center die and bases) and 11 feet of overall height, the monument includes 70,000 pounds of lettered and laser etched tablets with veterans’ names, donor recognition markers and benches.  It was set in November, 2006.
Fewell Monuments currently has customers in two-thirds of the country, from Florida to Pennsylvania to Colorado.  Its core customers include monument dealers, many of which work closely with local funeral homes to design and deliver uniquely personal memorials, using state of the art laser designs. It was acquired by the Buchanan Group in October of 2011.
Buchanan Group is owned and operated by Bruce and Brian Buchanan, who represent the fourth generation of family ownership. Based in Indianapolis, Buchanan Group services Indiana communities with a network of funeral homes, cemeteries, granite memorials and a national casket distribution business.  The company recently celebrated its 130th anniversary.

Madison Ashby - August 9, 2017

These six people had funerals on their mind for one reason or another and decided to share with the Twitter world what they were thinking, and I’m pretty glad they did. People can come up with some pretty crazy things if you let them ramble.
