Atlanta, GA – October 8, 2012 – Eternal Reefs, along with the Reef Ball Foundation, recently won a national CLASSY Award in the Environmental Protection category after having earlier advanced as the Southern Regional Winner via public voting and judging.

“Being in the company of previous winners such as Invisible Children and Alex’s Lemonade Stand is a real honor,” George Frankel, CEO of Eternal Reefs, said. “We look forward to many more years of being among the nation’s top organizations and socially-conscious businesses.”

The CLASSY Awards is the largest philanthropic awards ceremony in the country, celebrating the greatest charitable achievements by nonprofit organizations, socially conscious businesses, and individuals worldwide. In 2011, nearly 2,000 organizations and volunteers were nominated for a CLASSY Award, and their collective efforts impacted the lives of more than 200,000,000 people in 71 countries worldwide.

This year, 64 winners were chosen from 2,400 nominees after three weeks of public voting and judging. A leadership council chose one National CLASSY Award Winner in each of 16 categories and winners were announced at an awards ceremony September 22nd in San Diego.

“The fact that we received this award is a testimony to contributions and support from many people around the world, including volunteers, donors, teachers, students, divers, team members,” said Larry Beggs, Reef Ball Foundation president.

Reef balls are huge, hollow, structures that look like giant wiffle balls that attract aquatic wildlife and quickly foster new marine growth, replenishing the world’s diminishing natural reef systems.  An Eternal Reefs “memorial reef” is at once healing for the sea and for families since these types of reef balls mix a loved one’s cremated remains with the concrete to create the memorial. Reef balls are engineered to last forever and to withstand hurricanes and other natural disasters.  They vary in size from 600 pounds (2’ high x 3’ wide) to 4000 pounds (4’ high x 6’ wide).

Eternal Reefs is a part of The Reef Ball Foundation which are now internationally recognized for contributions to the environment.
