Flanner and Buchanan Hosts Crematory Operator Certification Program for Students

Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers hosted 50 students from Ivy Tech’s Central Indiana Lawrence Campus and Vincennes University at its Cremation Center of Indiana, in downtown Indianapolis, on September 27. Matthews International Cremation Division conducted this first ever cremation certification class for 2nd year Funeral Service Education students.  Greg Guffin, Director of Operations for Flanner and Buchanan, assembled the team and participants to host this unique learning and career enhancing training session.

According to Guffin, “At Flanner and Buchanan we believe it is important to give back to our community as well as our profession. Being the cremation experts in Central Indiana, it was only natural to host a training session like this” Guffin said. “This was an idea I had during the spring that would give students a leg up when they went looking for work after graduation.”

Flanner and Buchanan have had hundreds of interns over its 131 year history in training Indiana’s future funeral directors. “Many students thanked us afterwards for coordinating this unique opportunity,” said Guffin.

Founded in 1881, Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers is a family-owned business focused on celebrating life events.  Flanner and Buchanan has 14 funeral centers throughout central Indiana. The centers also host weddings, reunions, business retreats and community events.
