Green Burial Council Unveils Cooling Blanket for Use in Green Funerals

SANTA FE, NM – A new way of slowing decomposition in decedents is now available to funeral directors for use in green funerals.

Made from 100% nontoxic plant-derived cellulose, the Cooling Blanket, which was developed by the Green Burial Council (GBC), uses pre-cut cartridges of dry ice to provide easy handling and controlled placement of the cartridges, which can be ordered from almost any dry ice supplier.

“The Cooling Blanket is a cost-effective, turnkey solution enabling funeral directors to easily provide for a natural and noninvasive mode of preservation,” said Joe Sehee, Executive Director of the Green Burial Council. “It’s been designed to minimize the potential for the freezing or burning of tissue, which has been a common concern among funeral directors who use dry ice.”

The Cooling Blanket can be ordered through the GBC by calling 888-966-3330 ext.102 or emailing info@greenburialcouncil.org.
