Funeral Homes Making Big Mistakes, Could Be Kicked off Facebook
A few months ago we launched our “Facebook 101 Video Series” and the very first video we did was titled “Profile vs Fan Page”. We discussed why as a funeral home your presence on Facebook needed to be done through a Facebook Page and not a Facebook Profile.
Facebook profiles are for personal use , where Facebook Pages are set up for businesses and offer many features that a Facebook profile does not.
As I browse around Facebook it is still amazing to me how many funeral homes and funeral industry suppliers are continuing to set up Facebook Profiles for their business and not a Facebook Page. What these funeral homes and industry suppliers do not understand is that by having your business set up as a Facebook profile and not a Facebook Page you are in direct violation of Facebook’s terms of service and they could actually shutdown your profile and ban you from Facebook.
In Facebook’s Terms of Service under the Title: Statement of Rights and Responsibilities is a section titled: Registration and Account Security, is listed different violations of the Profile. Violation #4 states: You will not use your personal profile for your own commercial gain.
Now, this doesn’t mean that through your personal profile you can’t link to or post different information about your company, but it does mean that you can’t use your personal profile as a business page, this is why Facebook has created “Pages“
So, if you are currently using a Profile for your business please contact Ryan Thogmartin ,or send a twitter reply to @disruptmg, or visit http://www.disrutpmg.com/funeral and fill out the form for a free social media review. When we contact you to set up your review please explain that you need help converting your Profile into a Page.
It is important to get your Profile (you set up for your funeral home) converted to a Page before Facebook shuts down your profile.
