Zsa Zsa Gabor gold casket not a total surprise as suggested
Actress and socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor, one of the world’s most notorious “material girls,” was offered a free gold casket by The Golden Casket Company — yet the offer was not as big a surprise or as shockingly outrageous as Gabor’s husband, Frederic Prinz Von Anhalt, has suggested.
According to a letter released by The Golden Casket Company, the company president merely contacted Gabor’s publicist and spokesman, John Blanchette, to inquire whether or not the family would be interested in receiving a free, high-end, custom casket of 24-carat gold for the glamorous movie star.
It’s not uncommon for people in their 90’s to make some kind of plan for the here-after. Also, a 24-carat gold coffin is not exactly a stock item you can pull off the shelf at Costco. It’s usually a “pre-need” kind of purchase. Anyone who is familiar with construction or custom detailing knows there is a lead time required for high ticket custom items.
Furthermore, Gabor and her husband claim to be strapped for cash and forced to put their home on the market due to a $10 million loss, courtesy of scam artist Bernie Madoff.
All of these ideas are certainly valid reasons why the famous socialite might be interested in such an offer.
What makes the offer seem so outrageous, however, is the way in which it was suggested that the Gabor and the Prinz, were somehow being targeted, pressured, or had this gift forced upon them.
The idea that the casket was delivered to their doorstep like a piping hot pizza is simply not true.
When Golden Casket contacted Blanchette, they received word that Mr. Von Anhalt was interested and were told to contact Von Anhalt directly with more information — which they did, very respectfully, in a letter of introduction which indicated Mr. Blanchette’s instructions.
However, instead of saying “No, thank you,” the 67-year old Bel Air resident made a statement to online tabloid TMZ saying they “will take the casket and have the gold melted to get a nice ring out of it. These are some f*ing sick people,” he added.
