Car Club Tries to Set Record for Most Hearses in Procession

This one had 43. Then again, it was held in Hell.

A car club in Hell, Mich., tried to set a Guinness World Record today for the longest procession of hearses.

Alas, it fell short by seven.”It would have been nice,” said a glum Steve Frey, one of the hearse owners. “It could have gone better.”

The club, Just Hearse’N Around, normally attracts more than 50 hearses to its annual car show. But rain kept some drivers from attending today, said Frey.

Residents also were disappointed at the missed chance of seeing history in the making.

“It would have been cool,” said Lynn Jeffers, a Hell waitress. “It still was a lot.”

The record attempt was Frey’s brainchild.

After several years of car shows, he thought it would be neat to be part of a record.

He called Guinness World Record and learned there was no previous record for longest procession of hearses. Guinness told him if he wanted to set a mark, he should get at least 50 vehicles together and drive 2
