imageHow are you helping your customers handle the digital assets of their loved ones?

Do you know what digital assets are? What about digital identity? Yes, these are new topics that have never been openly addressed in the funeral industry, but have been talked about heavily in other industries. In fact there have been many Identity conferences held across the country discussing these issues.

So what are digital assets and identities? Well, if you have a Facebook account or any other social media account then you have a digital identity. Do you have an online banking account, Mint.com account, credit card account managed online? If you answered yes then you too have digital assets.

What happens to all of this info when you die? Where does it go? Have your attention yet? This is a serious topic that needs to be discussed in our industry. Funeral directors need to know how to help grieving families handle these online digital assets or digital identities.

Sure, we’ll all die. But our digital selves will live on. Who gets access to that information once you’re gone is something you might want to think about.

I would like to personally invite you to join me and other funeral industry leaders on May 20th, 2010 in Mountain View, CA for Digital Death Day.

Digital Death Day is a one day “unconference” where we will begin to explore digital death and how funeral professionals can play a part in helping grieving families close and manage digital assets and identities after the loss of a loved one.
